I think normally, the ability to "close" an account would provide only limited benefit.
But in Quicken Online where there is no way to manually enter "cleared" transactions, I think being able to "close" an account is more important.
When a real world account gets closed, eventually its balance usually goes to zero. But before that happens, Quicken Online may have lost the ability to connect to that account. Which can leave the Quicken Online account with a permanent balance.
It would be nice to be able to tell QO to "close" a particular account, and set its balance to zero (maybe just create a "Transfer Out" transaction for the remaining balance). That way we can keep the historical transactions and have the current balance correct.
[Also, closing an account should tell QO not to flag the account as being inaccessible ... since we do not expect to be able to access it again.]
How to ask a question.

Yes please, add a CLOSE ACCOUNT option. I closed a VISA card but can't log in to get the zero balance, and now a permanent debit is showing in my accounts option.
I recently lost my credit card and now have a new account number, My old account shows up with a balance even though the the account is closed. Since this is the card that our family uses for household expenses, we would lose significant data if the account was deleted. A closed account option would allow for a manual input to zero out the account.
I agree with this, closing an account is one of the least understood or documented things in Quicken. Usually I just have to delete the account, but this seems unnecessary.
Yes, please!! My card number was used online without authorization and my bank gave me a new number (attached to the same account). I've added my new card number and am showing that balance in full, but I'm also showing the balance from the old card number -- I'm afraid to delete the account because I need the transactions contained therein for my budgeting and trends. Please add the ability to close an account without deleting the transactions for that account.
