Unable to Send Mobile Alerts

Can someone please help with this problem? I am unable to setup alerts to mu mobile phone because I keep getting the following message:
Unable to send a mobile key to phone number entered. Phone number must be an active mobile phone number (not a land line) and must be able to accept text messages.
The phone in question works fine, it is a Sprint Windowsmobile phone, and normally receives/transmits text messages without problems.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
