I just started using Quicken Online and I have a question and a suggestion.

First, when I set a goal for "Credit Card" does it understand that the goal is paying it down? I assume so, because who in the world would have a goal of spending on a credit card?

Secondly, When not have more granular budget controls? Sub categories and such? I know it would take more effort to categorize transactions, but it would be worth it to some.

Hi,

The goals are intended to be spending limits (not savings goals). For example, a $400 per month goal for Groceries is to help you try to spend less than $400.

So, it probably doesn't make sense to have Credit Card as a goal, because you may want to spend more than your budgeted amount toward paying off your credit card whenever possible.

Our Credit Card category is admittedly a little confusing. It's really useful only for payments to a Credit Card that you're not tracking in Quicken Online.

For payments to a credit card that you are tracking in Quicken Online, you should use the Transfer Out category instead. Here is an FAQ that shows an example.

I hope this is helpful. Please reply if it doesn't make sense in your situation.
