This post is about: Quicken Medical Expense Manager V2 2008
Just in case anyone else runs into the "Failed to Check for Software Updates" error on a Vista machine that isn't resolved by Answer 388 . . . try right-clicking on the MEM icon, choosing "Run As Administrator" and *then* try "Check for Software Updates." I don't know why that worked since I *am* an administrator, but it did.

My situation was that I had MEM running on a Vista machine. When I got a replacement computer, I was able to install v 2.1.1.2 (the download I had) fine, but I was unable to open my data file because it was v 2.1.2.0. When I tried to run "Check for Software Updates" to get a version that would work with my existing data file, I got the "Failed to Check for Software Updates" error. I worked through everything in Answer 388 to no avail (including uninstalling & reinstalling) before thinking to try Run as Administrator.

Hopefully this will save someone else some stress & time.
