Splash Screen Strange Behavior

I notice that when QMEM starts the splash screen comes up while the software loads in the background. I notice that the file password prompt dialog pops up "behind" the splash screen long before it disappears.
I tried keying my password while the splash screen still covered it and noticed that the program took it just fine even though I can't see myself typing.
Is the splash screen on the screen for a pre-determined amount of time? It seems like the program is done loading long before the splash goes away.
