I don't find a built-in method in MEM to roll over

lists into the next year, as I need right now, given

this is New Year's Eve.

But I've hacked it for the 2007 by putting a copy of

MedicalManager.mem with 2006 data into a new folder

called 2007, then deleting all entered expense data

in that copy, thus leaving the lists intact. Using

this new "blank" copy of MEM works OK, but it's a bit

tedious to do. Built-in provision to rollover in the

manner it's done in Quicken would be helpful.

The built-in provision is to use the same file. Part of the purpose of QMEM is to create a centralized record of your, and your dependants', medical history. Separating files by year defeats that goal, and is not supported by the program.

Even in Quicken, where the feature is somewhat supported and the volume of transactions make it potentially useful, the power users in these forums strongly discourage its practice.

If you are looking to isolate reporting by year, that can easily be done by modifying the date ranges on the reports. Even the Expense Log can be filtered by dates to restrict your view to the current year.

If there is some other reason why you'd want a single-year file, feel free to explain. We may be able to come up with a viable alternative that would allow you to keep all of your data in a single file.

Note that there is NO WAY other than hand keying all of the transactions to combine data from two files. Think very carefully on that before forging ahead with your new empty file.

This post is about: Quicken Medical Expense Manager V2 2007
In a new year, all deductibles begin again. How is this handled if only the one original file is continued?
