We appreciate that scrolling is an area of great concern to some people and we're looking at the feasibility of fixing it.
I'm re-posting that at risk of further encouraging speculation. Or further irritating people.
(For what it's worth, it's not obvious why it seems to impact some systems much more than others; evidently it's not just a matter of system capability -- or user's relative level of patience (!). For example, one user gave his system specs and timed the length of time certain actions took him; on an identical system with his file, we observed much faster system response than he reported. And I completely trust what he told us.)
As noted elsewhere, we made a tradeoff to use .NET and an existing database application rather than a completely customized database and application as Quicken did, balancing the alternatives of making MEM available now vs. putting another 2 years into custom development (or 20+ years if you count the number of versions Quicken has had).
There are some challenges with some of our components. We're not the only ones encountering them. That said, bashing other companies is outside the scope of this forum.
Unfortunately, fixing the scrolling appears to be a significant undertaking, rather a flip-a-switch fix.
When I have a specific planned date of completion for this functionality (and I have very high confidence that the fix will work), I'll post that we're in the process of fixing it. If we come up with a quick do-it-yourself fix (e.g. defrag your hard drive) that really accomplishes something, I'll post it.
Thanks very much for you candor in discussing this scrolling issue. As you know, I've been following along with the discussions and it's great to hear that you are taking a hard look at the situation.
I continue to see the well defined scrolling delays on the main Expense Log screen plus the sluggish screen refresh. However, I'm easing into some workarounds.
The reports feature, including Find, are quite effective and there is no problem negotiating the report screens. Yesterday, I reviewed all 2006 prescription cost entries based on a quarterly report from Humana.
On the Expense Log, it was cumbersome to scroll to the various Rx entries but using the Find function, I was able to search for individual drugs and use the resulting Find reports. On a whole MEM has been very effective in organizing my medical expense details and has become an essential tool for me.
In your post you said, "There are some challenges with some of our components." But it sound like you are taking on the challenge. Thumbs up! :8}
